Vietnamese Egg Coffee / Cocoa

During our food tour in Hanoi, we were introduced to egg coffee. Our guide explained that Nguyen Giang, who lived in Hanoi, created ‘egg coffee’ in the 1940s due to the scarcity of milk.

Giang (the creator) whipped egg yolk with sweetened condensed milk for 10 minutes to create the creamy froth as a replacement for frothed milk on top of coffee. Our guide said it was a perfect easy breakfast. 😛
While Neil savoured his egg coffee, the kids and I enjoyed our egg cocoas!
We enjoyed it so much that Neil and I stopped for another one a couple of days later while out running errands. No fancy art this time, but you can clearly see the depth of the whipped egg. It was really delicious and we’ll be making it at home!
