On the way to Bazaar Baru Chow Kit for fruit and vegetables, we were sidetracked by the stalls along Jalan Raja Alang. The street is lined on both sides with stalls.
There are uncountable vegetable stalls.
Shallots, galangal, garlic, different kinds of chillis, ginger, turmeric, lemon grass – all fresh and ready for rempah (a spice paste that’s used as a base for many dishes). Then came the fish stalls.Behind the fish stalls in the sheltered warehouse were stalls for meat. We didn’t venture in as it was the end of the day and only the ones lining the exterior were still open.Yellow chickensWhite chickensLive chickens. Very little goes to waste as the internal organs are used for satay (and probably other dishes too). One of the stalls selling beef. Yes, that’s are real dead cow head. Packaged meat for sale. We’re in a Muslim neighbourhood, so no pork in sight. The egg truck still had lots of stock.Coconut stall. The tilted bowls on the left are where he grinds the meat of the coconut. The shop keeper is extracting coconut milk at the machine. Fresh coconut milk makes a huge difference in foods.Dry goods stall has crackers, snacks, sauces, noodles, and rice. There are numerous fruit stalls. Longan, mangoes, jackfruit, guavas, rambutans, bananas, persimmons, pineapples, papaya, mangosteens, grapes, sugar apples …Apples, oranges, apple pears, limes. So much variety.
We went home with an amazing haul of fruit and vegetables.

I think LiiLing found her version of paradise. Better take some measurements so we can put up stalls at Mel Lampman square.
Fruits taste so much better than in Canada. Imagine fresh mangosteens, dragonfruit, rambutans, and longans for breakfast! Totally unheard of in Canada.
