Breakfast in Singapore

Tekka Food Centre, about a 5 minute walk from our hostel (more on this later), was a favourite spot for breakfast. The kids loved the Food/Hawker Centres for their variety and fresh fruit juices. It’s got over 300 stalls containing cooked food, fresh food, clothing and a wet market.

Many of the locals eat with their hands here, and everyone cleans up after themselves. Napkins are rare, but there’s plenty of wash stations.
Looking at the fresh food stalls. We only made it to the cooked food stalls.
One morning, we sampled Chinese pancakes (red bean, peanut, and peanut + peanut butter), various fried fritters, and fresh juices (sugarcane + watermelon, sugarcane, mango).
Our second morning, Felix and I had steamed chicken rice, the older two chose Chinese pancakes and shared a plate of fried dumplings. Neil had to take a break from the local breakfast (he had muesli and milk back at the hostel).
Neil’s coffee to “take away”. Tip: don’t carry it this way as it’ll break and you’ll lose your coffee. 😢
Interesting signage to go with your food.

  1. So interesting. Lots of food variety. Everything looks clean and organized. You all look healthy and happy, I hope that includes the storyteller! The photos of the food makes me hungry! XO
