Mount Kiso-Komagatake, Mount Hoken, Senjojiki Cirque Hike

It’s a mouthful but we all thought this was one of the best hikes we’ve done.

We had to catch the bus early in the morning to be able to take the Komagatake Ropeway to access the hike. We were running late, and the bus driver kindly stopped when he saw us otherwise we would have had a long wait for a bus that had room. This sight was from our bus ride up the mountain. Another sunny hot day in Komagane – we were surprised to see many Japanese with jackets and other warm gear. There were warnings about having the right equipment as the weather is unpredictable.

These are the views from the cable car:

Initially, the path is clearly delineated and a fairly gradual incline.
View of the Senjojiki Cirque (elevation of 2,600 meters). It’s an almost circular basin from about 20,000 years ago by a receding glacier. Its name in Japanese translates to “1,000 tatami mats laid” as its area is approximately the area of 1,000 tatami mats.
Taking a break after reaching Jodo Nokkoshi where we have amazing views.
Two kids on the path.
Lara working her way along the chain.
Lara and Felix are in the bottom left quadrant; that *could* be Nolan at the peak as he was ahead.

Nolan took a picture of himself on the peak with his drone. After this, we’re descending.

We had the best timing! Shortly after the peak at Mt Nakadake, the mists started to roll in.
