About a week ago (Oct 23), Nolan stubbed his toe badly while running up the stairs. The next day, he ran 5K in the City Championships. And then yesterday (Oct 29), we all went for a 10km hike with friends. At the end of the hike, he said his knee hurt (this, we know about, and know the treatment), and his toe was very painful.
And then we had this conversation while he was at school:

The verdict was to get it checked out at Emerg immediately after school. We arrived shortly after 4PM and were triaged at three levels.

If those areas look familiar, it’s because we’ve been here before for his wrist and his hand. At 7:34PM we were done and waiting for a ride home. [The only sign of Halloween was one nurse who was wearing a witch’s hat.]
Final verdict: everything is fine, there is no break. The emerg doctor said even if the toe was broken, they wouldn’t do anything anyway (no boot or cast). He said if it was still really hurting in 10 days, he could come back for another xray. It’s possible the new xray would show a line (from calcification) – even then, it’d be just “oh look, it was broken” and they wouldn’t do anything.
We used to stub our toes coming down the stairs when we were teens. Grandma used to say we we growing and didn’t know how long our legs were. Get well soon!
Halloween in North York General Emergency room,… I’ve been there with a knee that could not carry weight. Imagine how fast Nolan would have run if he was not in pain! Perhaps bandaging two toes together each morning will give some relief. May want steel toed work boots to protect the injury!
My tibia-plateau break did not show up in initial X-rays, but did appear on a CAT scan, and an X-ray after a few days, so that may have been calcification.
