Nolan’s Bedroom

While Lara and I were working on extending the mudroom cabinet, Neil was focused on removing the mold/mildew in the guest room/playroom/storage room in the basement so Nolan could have his own room. The contractors that finished our basement did not install the vapour barrier properly (they didn’t connect it to the subfloor) 😡

This is the room after we moved all the stuff out. Neil has started removing the Murphy guest bed and storage units. Looks pretty harmless doesn’t it?
First step was to clean off the mold on the flooring with bleach mixed with water so we could have more access.
Then the flooring comes up – Nolan numbered each piece so it could be restored after the cleanup.
The drywall has been carefully cut away.
Work related injury.
This was found and sealed into the walls. 🤮
Correctly installed vapour barrier where the wall vapour barrier is sealed against the subfloor.
Next step is to install mold resistant drywall.

Check out the before and after shots. That bit of green tape in the second and third photo is the source of the head injury.

Felix helps out with the priming.
Reinstalling the baseboards.
Caulking the joints.
And finally reassembling the murphy bed and its storage units.
Ready for moving in after 9 days of work.
