Sick Kids Checkup

Due to covid, we had delayed a couple of Felix’s processor checkups and and replaced one visit with a virtual one.

We went in for this checkup as there’s some machines and instruments that are required to complete his checkup. One of the checks is to confirm that the volume of his processors is not too high. With a loud stimulus, the ear drum will contract to protect the rest of the hearing organs and there’s a special machine that measures this acoustic/stapedius reflex. As you can see in the video, Felix’s stapedius reflex is working well.

During his cochlear implant surgery, they do this same test, but the surgeon is able to see the reflex with the naked eye.
First time for Felix to be in the soundproofed room on his own (usually, I sit with him in the room). The audiologist commented that Felix is very easy to work with. Yay Felix!

It’s also been a while since Felix’s last visit at Archie’s Lab.

They’ve changed to have a new cap to better capture the signals.
Squirting in the gel is Felix’s least favourite part as it can hurt. He’s a model volunteer as he’s very patient and tolerating.
They also changed the gel – it’s now oilier and goopier.
Last step is the hair wash! Nothing has changed here – still over the sink with a cup 😀

This time around he chose a game of Dominoes to bring home. Good for another 6 months!
