There was a two-day delay to the start of school this year, so the kids returned to physical school on Sep 9. All three started at new schools this year with Nolan at high school, and Lara and Felix at middle school. Here’s some of what occurred during the first week of school.
Since both schools are fairly close, the boys decided to ride together. Excited about returning to school.Lara shows how she feels about the start of school.
On the same day, Felix had an orthodontist appointment to get his braces.Rainbow coloured elastics 😊 No one sees them at school since everyone is masked.
In their forays around the neighbourhood, the kids kept telling us about the chicken down the street. Not sure who on the street owns the chicken, but it’s often on the lawn of this house in the evenings.A friend in the neighbourhood has started an urban farm business at his house so we’ve been enjoying samples. These are summer squash we took home.A couple of days later, he delivered romaine, cucumbers and cauliflower. Organic and freshly harvested. Sooooo good! Although it looks like broccoli, the taste is all cauliflower. The sweetest stems ever!In one of the parks by the house, we discovered this giant-leafed ornamental plant …with crazy looking seeds. It’s a castor bean plant, and the crazy looking seed pods contain the toxin ricin, an extremely deadly natural poison. And … we had the roof re-shingled after putting it off for almost a year.It took them two days, the front was done on the second day.New vents in the roof, and you can see the progression of Lara’s pet project of a butterfly and bee friendly garden.
Lots going on at 218 Elmhurst Ave!
Castor bean grows fast and big. Akers good compost. Back in the classrooms should be the right move.
I love the happy faces!
