Yard work and play

Unlike the paid yard work the kids do for Ivan down the street, they are kind enough to voluntarily work on our own backyard. A lot gets done when you have a team of 5 working together!

Pruning and pollinating the apple tree. This apple tree has four different types of apples. While there’s lots of blooms, we’re still waiting for a harvest of more than one apple a year. ๐Ÿคจ
Felix’s turn to mow the back lawn. The kids rotate through the jobs that use the tools: mower, hedge trimmer, and weed whacker. It’s all about getting to use the tools ๐Ÿ™‚
Wearing required protection when using tools.
Some parts of it look like he’s either licking his chops or sticking his tongue out at us ๐Ÿ˜†

The work is interspersed with lots of play time.

Nolan had made the “basketball net” a while back, but decided that he wanted a backboard. He found the piece of trellis and posts from the front porch destined for the dump and put them to use. Recycle and reuse.
It gets a lot of use by the boys.
Pruning the Japanese maple. Lara enjoys pruning.
The back hedge was the one Nolan was pruning that lead to a visit to the Emergency Department and 5 stitches.

The next day, he was out planting some butterfly and bee-friendly plants we received from a friend, and trimming the back hedge.

Wild strawberries under the apple tree (probably to be eaten by the rabbits that visit our yard every morning).
Lara and Felix planted the forget-me-nots in a pot we picked up from a house down the street last year.
