Paid yard work

Having observed the kids out and about the last couple of years, the neighbour two houses down (Ivan) asked if they would be interested in some paid yard work on his property. Well, that was an unequivocal ‘Yes!’.

On May 13, Nolan was paid $25 to mow the front and back yard. He went the extra mile to also trim all the edges and the step stones, and then he swept everything clean. Ivan was so impressed with his attention to detail that he then offered another job.
The kids went over to obtain the details of the job. Then we compared notes with what Ivan sent, and they were in sync. Payment could be cash, Lego, or a combination of the two.

And then they got to work.

Getting there. The hedge is pruned, tons of weeds have been removed. They just have to remove the brown stalks, trim around the stones, and sweep.
Job complete. Nolan went back on garbage day to take put the yard waste bags out for him.
Felix asked for his portion to be in Lego, the two older ones wanted cash (they split $45). Ivan gave each kid an extra Lego plus the Chain Reactions Lego kit as a bonus for a job well done.

While chatting with Ivan, Nolan told him that if he bought some flowers, Nolan would plant them for him. Ivan indicated that he would pay Nolan for that job. A couple of days later, he texted to say that he has been receiving a lot of compliments on his front yard so he’s very pleased and would be in touch for more work for the kids in the future.

  1. Good money in yard work, especially when it’s so well done.
You’ll soon be the neighbourhood gardeners!
