Fire! (outside this time)

Last weekend, we were invited to an outdoor fireside visit at a friend’s backyard (everyone was masked and stayed 6 ft apart). We noticed that their neighbour had stacked firewood all along their shared fence. Our friends told us that the neighbour walks around the neighbourhood with a wagon and picks up any trimmings he finds. Free firewood! Not only that, but we have another mutual friend in the neighbourhood who would loan out his log splitter.

Thursday morning, on the walk home from the doctor, the kids spied this log. So you know what happens next 🙂
We hadn’t gone very far before the kids decided to send Lara home for help as they realized they would be late for school. She returned with the dolly.
Felix continued exercising his muscles as we waited for Lara.
We passed by some discarded Christmas trees on the way home, so during lunch break, they used the converted chariot to bring them home too.
Every moment of free time was spent denuding the trees and cutting up the trunks.
They spent all Sunday afternoon playing with fire. The needles went up in very satisfying bursts of flame. The sections of trunk were too green and burned very slowly.
