Ermita Nuestra Señora de la Hoz, Cascada de Tobera, Cascada de Pedrosa de Tobalina

Those melodious names are for a spectacular hermitage and waterfalls close to Frías.

First stop is the Hermitage of Our Lady of Hoz, constructed in the 13th century in the shelter of a mountain. It was used for a while as a hostel for pilgrims.
Sadly, we were only able to explore the exterior of the buildings,
before heading to the waterfalls. In the background here, you can see one of the waterfalls.
Even through the small window, the view of the waterfall is amazing.
The route follows the Molinar River as it cascades through the town of Tobera.
In the middle of summer, there’s not as much flow. Apparently, in the spring, the water can get high enough that it’s not possible to use the path beside the river.
But there are still amazing views of the little river and the waterfalls as it meanders between the homes.
The path is clearly marked; and there’s an old one-eyed bridge connecting the halves of the town divided by the river.
There are a number of lookouts along the way to admire the falls.
This is hiding beneath the old one-eyed bridge – who would’ve guessed?!
Crossing the Molinar River using some conveniently placed stones.
Final stop for the day – Cascada de Pedrosa de Tobalina. Not much water since we’re in the middle of summer so the kids and Neil made an excursion to try to swim beneath the falls.
It may not look like much, but there’s some force behind that trickle of water as his gestures indicate.
Trekking back from behind the falls and we’re calling it a day!
3.3 km for the hermitage and cascades of Tobera.
1.4 km to the Tobalina Falls. That string of parked cars on the street was an actuality for us!
