Paragliding at Aizkorri Beach

We didn’t actually have the intention or know about paragliding when we headed to Aizkorri Beach. It was a spur of the moment decision.

Side note: this post has some cool videos!

It’s a fairly long but breezy walk to reach the beach.
Remote control glider.
Our first sights of the colourful paraglider wings. As soon as they saw this, the kids started advocating to go paragliding.
Aizkorri Beach is pegged as the most exceptional beach in the town of Getxo because it has preserved its own dune system and rock formations. We didn’t realize this until subsequent visits to the beach.
Passing the paragliders on the way to the beach.
One of the amazing views of the beach from above the cliffs.
Some of the interesting rocks along the beach.
The tide was out when we arrived.
Passing the famed grassy dunes on the way down to the beach. It looks peaceful but as the day progresses, the waves build, making this a very popular surfing beach.
We hung out at the beach for a while; and the kids and Neil enjoyed the cool water of the Bay of Biscay before they talked us into checking out the paragliding activities.
Felix is up first and is buckled into his harness. The paraglider is an acrobatics competitor.
Mom needs another hug before her baby flies away!
Getting ready for takeoff, a hop, skip and right off the cliff. 😱
Isn’t that the view? That’s Felix way up there, flying close the cliffs and then heading out to sea.
Big smiles and wave before coming in.
Neil’s instructor is different from the kids’ – he founded the outfit that takes people paragliding.
When Neil got quiet during the flight, he was offered a doggie bag 🤮
Turn the sound on for his flyby with the kids.
Lara getting prepped for her flight.
She got two skimming passes on her flight.
She’s still smiling after landing …
but definitely not feeling well.
Last to fly is Nolan.
Lots going on here.
All those paragliders.
This shows the control the instructor has over his chute. Yes, we had contact on the high-fives before he flew away.
He, too, is still smiling on landing but he was definitely not feeling well.
After the excitement, we headed back to the beach for some chill time.
They all recovered nicely.
The satellite map show the stretch of beaches the few over. Total distance walking was 7.6 km
Later in the afternoon, we explored our neighbourhood for another 3.3 km.
