One of the pavilions at the Plaza de España houses the Archaeological Museum. Since we went through Maria Luisa Park to the Plaza, we had to try the playgrounds we hadn’t played at previously. There was a lot more to this museum but we got booted out at 3PM (when it closes). So, back to […]
Pabellon de la Navegación (Navigation Museum)
Early morning walk to the Navigation Museum. From Neil’s reading, it supposedly had multi-sensory touch-listen-smell features – ideal for the kids. Felix needed a break for the day, so it was just Nolan, Lara and me. In the evening, we went for a short walk with Neil around our neighbourhood.
Wall of Seville
Seville has been fortified with walls starting in the Roman empire (during the time of Julius Caesar), and on through subsequent rule by the Visigoths and Moors. Much of it is now gone but the two areas where they were preserved are around the Alcázar and the neighbourhood of Macarena. We headed for Macarena today […]
Archivo de Indias, Tintin y la Luna, Azul
Weekend days are well-packed!! First stop of the day was the Archives of the Indies which houses the documents related to the Spanish empire, in particular, of the Americas and Philippines. The project to consolidate the archives, which were dispersed between several Spanish cities, was begun in 1785. Our next stop was an exhibition called […]
Sevilla Segway Jaunt
Remember our segway trial? Nolan did some research and found the best deal for a segway tour of Sevilla. Of course, there were a number of digressions on the way to the tour.
Autiquarium at Las Setas
As with most attractions we’ve visited so far, Las Setas (Metropol Parasol) has Roman ruins beneath its market, which in turn has Islamic ruins from the 12-13th centuries below it. The Roman ruins were discovered during the construction of Las Setas and preserved for visitors. A visit to the ruins was free for the kids […]
Maria Luisa Park
Sevilla is hot and dry, with very little green space. Certainly no fields of grass on which to play soccer (although there are lots of treed streets and small playgrounds). Maria Luisa Park is Sevilla’s main green space. It was originally the gardens of the Palace of San Telmo, which were donated to the city […]
Food in Seville
Here’s a small sample of what we ate while in Seville. Even though we only ate out a couple of times, we were able to sample quite a few new foods!
Museo de Bellas Artes, Sevilla
This museum opened in 1841 with works the state confiscated from convents and monasteries. It’s even in a building that used to be a convent. Today, its exhibits still contain the confiscated materials along with private donations and acquisitions. The works in Room 3 focused on artists in the 16th century. Room 4 focused on […]
Centro Ceramica Triana
The plan for the day was to visit the museum of ceramics in Triana. Triana was an important hub of ceramics from the 12th to 20th century. As usual, we saw a lot of interesting things on the way. Neil came along for a morning walk as far as the Torre Sevilla before returning to […]
