Here’s a small sample of what we made in our apartment while in Seville. Even though we only ate out a couple of times, we were able to sample quite a few new foods by hitting the abundant food stores! The best word to describe the food here? FRESH!
Shopping in Seville
One of the fun activities has been exploring the different markets around Seville. Aside from the phenomenally fresh produce, there are sights that prompt outbursts and questions from the kids. Looking back, it seems that we have a pretty strong focus on food 🙂
Royal Tobacco Factory
This was our last full day in Seville. We spent the morning exploring the Real Fábrica de Tabacos, followed by packing and cleaning in the afternoon.
Tapear-ing
Some things we learnt off google about going for tapas in Spain like a local – ‘tapearing’: if it’s a Spanish menu or all-day tapas, it’s likely catered for tourists – we wanted a more traditional experience only Spanish is spoken in the restaurant busy with locals We headed into the Triana neighbourhood where the […]
Las Setas at night
We had already visited Las Setas on ground level and below ground level during the day. This visit is on top of Las Setas and during sunset.
Museum of Art and Popular Customs of Seville, Roman columns
The kids watched a video about cork harvesting and another on the production of lime. There were exhibits of different types of traditional Spanish foods before we moved on to the most interesting exhibits for the kids. La Cucaña
The Festival of the Velá de Santa Ana is one of the oldest festivals celebrated in the Triana neighbourhood of Seville. La Cucaña is an activity where contestants walk along a greased pole to grab a flag at the end. Three of them of have to succeed for the La Cucaña to be completed.
Royal Alcázar of Seville
This palace was begun after the reconquest of the Moors by the Christians. The site originally held a Visigoth basilica, which was then destroyed and replaced with a fortress by the Moors. It’s been expanded over the years by other monarchs. The top floor of the palace is still in use by the Spanish Royal […]
Seville Cathedral, La Giralda,
Seville Cathedral is the largest Gothic cathedral in the world (124,000 square feet) and the third largest church in the world. It took over a century to build, and is built on top of a mosque built by the Moors. There are still some parts of the mosque remaining, namely the belltower (the Giralda), which […]
Doña Aceituna
Quiet day today with the highlight being a visit to Doña Aceituna.
