On our exploration through Concubine Lane, we encountered an interesting snack. Everyone enjoyed them so much that we got a second helping. The size of these “snacks” was a huge surprise.

PADI Certification in Langkawi
With around a week in Langkawi added to our itinerary, we decided to see who wanted to get their PADI Open Water scuba diving certification. Lara and Nolan signed up, and Neil went along to get a refresher for his SSI certification. Neil opted for the full refresher, given he hadn’t been diving in around […]
Eco-Friendly Plates
While in Cameron Highlands, we had an interesting and yummy dinner at Yash Banana Leaf restaurant (Lara missed this experience as she had just caught the colds that Neil and I had).
Skyline Luge: Kuala Lumpur
We learnt about the Skyline Luge after we started our gap year trip, and the first one we visited was in Busan. We’ve since visited Rotorua, Queenstown, Singapore, and today, Kuala Lumpur. Kuala Lumpur is one of our favourites. The runs are fast and windy – quite often, you round the corners on two wheels. […]
The Putty Knife
We’re currently staying in a Muslim neighbourhood in Kuala Lumpur, which means being woken just before 6 each morning by the muezzins proclaiming the call to prayer via loudspeakers. Despite being on the 43rd floor of the building, the chants are loud and clear. On the bright side, this means delicious fresh roti canai for […]
The Roti Canai “Legend”

Roti canai (pronounced “chanai”) is a fluffy layered flatbread that can be served plain or with various fillings like egg, onions, cheese, or bananas. We were originally filming the guy making the filled roti as he was using the putty […]
Jalan Raja Alang Wet Market
On the way to Bazaar Baru Chow Kit for fruit and vegetables, we were sidetracked by the stalls along Jalan Raja Alang. The street is lined on both sides with stalls. There are uncountable vegetable stalls. We went home with an amazing haul of fruit and vegetables.
Contrasts
Our second stay in Singapore was another hostel where we scored a whole room with private bathroom for CAD$280 per night. Our own bathroom – the photographer is in the middle of the two pictures. Lounging in our bunks. Space was pretty tight, but it was clean and each of us had a bed, so […]
