There was no school on Friday, and Neil had the day off. When our friends texted to offer us the use of the pool since they were away for the day, we HAD to take them up on the offer. 🙂

Yard work and play
Unlike the paid yard work the kids do for Ivan down the street, they are kind enough to voluntarily work on our own backyard. A lot gets done when you have a team of 5 working together! The work is interspersed with lots of play time. The next day, he was out planting some butterfly […]
First swim of the year
Got a message today from one of the friends who lets us use their pool saying that they opened their pool and we were welcome to use it. They would ensure only one family at a time would be in the pool at a time. Of course, the kids wanted to go even though it […]
Paid yard work
Having observed the kids out and about the last couple of years, the neighbour two houses down (Ivan) asked if they would be interested in some paid yard work on his property. Well, that was an unequivocal ‘Yes!’. And then they got to work. While chatting with Ivan, Nolan told him that if he bought […]
Making soap
Over the years, I’ve looked into making soap but the number of finicky steps were always too daunting. Not for Lara though. She did the research, organized the endeavour, and executed the steps; and we now have homemade soap. Along the way, emulsification, saponification, and exothermic reactions were discussed. Lego action
“Lego-ing” could be a verb in our house. Each day, he set up a little scene with a couple of figures for us to find.
Leith – at home
Due to covid, March break was delayed till the week of April 12. We optimistically booked a week in a house down the street from Aunt Mary for the week. On Thursday April 8, the province went into another lockdown, so our plans were cancelled. The kids channeled their disappointment into a creative project.
Target practice
With the warmer weather and some yard work being done, the kids brought home branches that someone on our street had pruned. The branches were thin, supple, and long. Perfect for making bows.
Outdoor activities
Since March began, the weather has been continuing to improve and we’ve been doing more exploring close to home. These are from the trails in the ravine just by home: Exploring G Ross Lord Park, a 5 min drive away from home: A different portion of G Ross Lord Park:
Chicken coop delivery
Eggciting news, but the coop is not for us. Neil helped a friend move a chicken coop that he was receiving. It took three cars (to keep the family groups separated) and our trailer. Now we wait to see when the chickens arrive.
