With covid19, we actually celebrated his birthday at home for the first time in many years. Nolan insisted on a 13-layer cake with icing between the layers for his cake. I had to use a little poetic license to achieve the goal.

Deep River Jul 2020
With covid19, this trip to Deep River was a little different. Grandpa moved out of his home and into Joan’s so we could stay at his place (big thank you to Grandpa for that!). We had all our dinners with Grandpa, and sometimes Joan, on his back deck and he did not enter his house […]
Cleaning grout – Take 1
Neil decided one day that the kitchen grout had to be cleaned – it was grungy and made our kitchen look dark. The title of this post says “Take 1”. Is there a Take 2″?
Nest repair
In previous summers, we had been experiencing the air conditioner turning on then quickly turning off again, frequently resulting in a tripped breaker and an uncomfortable warm house until we noticed. Neil diagnosed this, with the help of the internet, to a Nest related issue. Here’s a great post about the issue: https://smartthermostatguide.com/no-c-wire-install-a-nest-thermostat-at-your-own-risk/. Basically, the […]
Leith in an RV Bus – Activities
This is a collection of our activities for our trip from Jul 2 to 8 in the RV Bus, some of which include trapezing, building and cooking in a sand firepit, and the kids driving the RV.
Leith in an RV Bus – RV Features

Bonus – no special license is required to drive it and Neil found a deal where it’s half the price until July 8. Our […]
3-D Illusion Drawings
Nolan spent several hours on a very hot (31°F) Father’s Day working on these (off youtube). Which one is your favourite?
Achenbach’s Syndrome
For a couple of days in May of 2020, I had a very interesting looking fourth finger on my right hand. No pain, just the discolouration and swelling. Neil looked it up and thinks it’s probably Achenbach’s Syndrome. Achenbach’s syndrome, or paroxysmal finger hematoma, is a rare, benign, self-limiting condition of spontaneous hemorrhage in the […]
Felix’s 10th
His request was for a chocolate-vanilla-chocolate-vanilla layered cake. I figured interpretation was up to me. 🙂 Hugs all around! Bonus: with covid19, I had bought cream cheese the week before in case his request turned out to be chocolate cheesecake. So we had a chocolate cheesecake the following week. 🙂
