We were going to wait until South East Asia to get a cheap haircut, but when we saw $11 haircuts in Fukuoka, we decided to try it out. It was a unique experience to purchase our haircuts via a machine. Neil translated the flowchart of what was on offer and how to get your haircut.

Mount Kiso-Komagatake, Mount Hoken, Senjojiki Cirque Hike
It’s a mouthful but we all thought this was one of the best hikes we’ve done. These are the views from the cable car: Some of the alpine flowers we saw on the hike: At the peak of Mt. Nakadake, the second highest point of the Japanese Central Alps.
Taro Jiro Falls
We found these amazing waterfalls, in our subsequent explorations, after failing to see Mt Fuji due to cloud cover (we only rented a car for one day during our stay in Tokyo). Our walk was punctuated by several trickles of small waterfalls.
Old Coach Trail
This 9km hiking trail near Radium Hot Springs was a road used by the Model Ts in 1920s!
Muskoka Woods
On Monday morning, Felix packed up and headed out for his first overnight school trip. The Grade 7s in their school travelled to Muskoka Woods for 3 days of fun in the sun/snow/rain. He picked a friend and asked that his friend wake/notify him as needed when his processors are off (which is when he’s […]
Why’s your backpack so heavy?
Neil was moving some things at the back door and picked up Lara’s backpack. He couldn’t figure out why an empty backpack was so heavy, so took a peek.
River Antoine Rum Distillery

This unique distillery, started in the 18th century, still operates using equipment and processes from over 200 years ago. This means it does not have pasteurization, cultured yeast strains, steam […]
Belmont Estate: tree-to-bar chocolate experience
We were originally scheduled for a 11AM tour at Belmont Estate, but we arrived later in the afternoon due to our doctor and pharmacy adventures in the morning. Of course, Nolan’s drone came out at the end and he got some amazing overhead shots.
Ailments
Several days into our trip, the kids and Neil started exhibiting signs of being sick (fatigue, sore throat, congestion and coughing). This was also when we realized that we had left the covid test kits behind in our frenzy of repacking 5 carry-ons into 2 checked bags the night before our departure. This is after […]
A lighthouse, beaches, and an off-grid farm
Today was a day of multiple stops. We then visited a farm of Michael, a local who lives off-grid with Billy, his Australian wife, on a farm in the bush. Earlier Neil and Lii Ling had been exploring the garden at our AirBnB when Michael passed by, selling large bags of sorrel. We wanted only […]
