Two beaches near Nafplio

One of our first priorities in Nafplio after settling in and sourcing our groceries was to find beach. The weather was scorching and we desperately wanted to cool off. Paralia Arvanitias (Arvanitias Beach) is a 5 min drive or 15 min walk from our airbnb.

It’s just below the Palamidi Castle, which we planned to explore on another day. We’ll try the 999 steps up to the castle early in the morning.
It was a tiny beach (200 m) and rocky and did get very packed, but the waters were clear and cool. So refreshing!
At the bottom of those cliffs is the Arvanitia Promenade, which is supposed to be a nice 1km walk. It was closed due to falling rocks, so we weren’t able to try it.

Happy to be cooling off!

In the streets of Nafplio, on the way home. Lots of good exercise!

The other beach we frequented was Karathonas Beach.

This was a 10 min drive from home, along some windy mountainous roads. If you look closely, there are bee boxes lining the sides of the second road from the right. These colourful boxes were a common sight in our travels.
This was a beautiful sandy beach in a huge bay.
The beach stretches 3km, and was much quieter than Arvanitias.
Unfortunately, due to some technical issues, these are the only pictures we have of this beach. Guess we’ll have to go back!
