We had originally planned a two-week stay at Leith this summer, renting a house a block away from Aunt Mary’s. With the relaxation of covid-19 restrictions, Aunt Mary and Tony said we could stay with them. For an extra bonus, since school was starting later than normal this year, they also invited us to extend our stay, for a total of three activity-packed memory-creation weeks in Leith.
Lots of sailing, of course.
Family of loons.
Dog riding a kayak.
Taking flight.
There’s a man who lives on this raft.
Catching the breeze on a kayak.

If you look closely, you can see their initials embroidered onto the pocket fronts.
There was a major sewing project where Aunt Mary taught the Littles how to make their own aprons from scratch.
Lara browsed through Aunt Mary’s recipe books and found a sheet pan tiramisu she wanted to try.
First layer is the sponge cake
Then the hot coffee
Followed by cream cheese and whipped cream mix
Checking out the results so far
Finally, a sprinkle of cocoa
Almost ready to eat.
Perfect!
Lara’s sheet-pan tiramisu, for the second time in three days … because we had to be doubly sure that it was really THAT good. The kids need a ride on the dolly at least once each trip.
Kids taking turns to use the laser sail as a “tub”.Almost daily, there was a trip to the “Bishy Bill” airport to catch some planes, and to drive the car in the parking lot.Making ice cream for ice cream sandwiches. One day, looking out of Aunt Mary’s window, the kids spotted the SS St. Marys Challenger coming into Owen Sound. This vessel was built in 1906 and worked for over a century carrying cement before being refitted into a barge. It was hooked up with a dedicated tug boat (the Prentiss Brown) and still transports powdered cement (the Activities video later in this post shows the transfer of the powdered cement from the barge to storage containers on land).
Hours surfing the waves.Lara working on installing Aunt Mary’s green bin.
He likes to put the candles on his cake.

The crust is made with homemade chocolate wafers.
Pouring in the filling.
Mirror glazing.
Careful etching
with intense concentration.
Applying the coloured icing.
The finished product. It looks too beautiful to cut into!

Very entertaining. Such an accomplished family.
Question: what careers would you choose if you wanted to live in a place like Leith?
