Feb 17th was a PA Day and CAGIS held an event where siblings, even boys, could attend. Unfortunately, Felix didn’t meet the minimum age, so only Nolan and Lara went. It was held at the Donnelly Centre for Cellular and Biomolecular Research at the U of T.
There was a talk about fluorescence and model, then the kids:
- Mated yeast
- And used the confocal microscope to image their fluorescent cells.
Then there was a tour of the labs and the kids got to check out fluorescent zebrafish samples. First pic is from Feb 18 (day after the session), the second was from Feb 28. The one on the right is Nolan’s and the petri dish was cracked, hence the contamination and explosion of growth!
What a great experience for them. So much is offered now to encourage and inspire children. XO
