Playing Hooky

The Littles decided to claim Tuesday Feb 16 as their combined birthday day-off-school day. It extended their long weekend to 5 days, and in spite of the lockdown, it was loads of fun.

The planned the activities for the day in advance together, and put it in a spreadsheet and shared it:

Some possible outings.
Activities and schedule for the day.

What did we end up doing? First project of the day was to make Molten Chocolate Cakes.

While I was doing yoga with a friend, they printed out the recipe, figured out the changes they wanted to make, and brought out the ingredients.
Buttered the ramekins and sprinkled with cocoa powder.
Making the ganache for the filling.
It required carefully microwaving and stirring.
Then it was time to make the cake.

These are Felix’s doing-math-in-my-head faces:

I got the answer!
Whisking the eggs and sugar.
Lara taking over the mixing – it took quite a bit of whisking to take out the lumps. We couldn’t use the actual KitchenAid since Nolan was still in school in the living room.
The second-best part of the process.
Almost ready for the oven.
Putting them on a baking tray,
then into the oven it goes.
Yum yum!
Prepping one for Daddy’s dessert after lunch.
After lunch was more outdoor time.
Check out the arsenal under the table!
In the middle of a work/school day, the local sledding hill was empty and we had a clean slate.
With some slightly unexpected results.
Chilling time in the evening reading The Lord of the Rings.
