Deep River Jul 2020

With covid19, this trip to Deep River was a little different. Grandpa moved out of his home and into Joan’s so we could stay at his place (big thank you to Grandpa for that!). We had all our dinners with Grandpa, and sometimes Joan, on his back deck and he did not enter his house for the duration of our stay.

Despite the restrictions, the kids kept Grandpa (and often Joan as well) busy. The daily routine involved:

  • a 10km bike ride at 8AM that often included getting wet
  • bike home for a snack
  • bike down to the marina for a short sail at 10:30AM
  • bike home, lunch while reading
  • bike down to the marina for a longer sail at 2PM
  • bike home for a snack
  • read till dinner
Couldn’t decide if he wanted to blade or bike so he did both.
Blueberry pancake breakfast from fresh blueberries found in Grandpa’s fridge. We ate through ALL the food we brought two days before the end of our trip. Grandpa had to do a grocery run for us; and we cleaned out his fridge and a lot of his stash in his freezer.
Climbing a rock on a walk.
Hmmm, we have an extra Laser sitting in our backyard …
A very different way to play Go,
and Jenga.
There were many different structures built over the course of our stay.
Visiting Uncle Gary – he’s priming the pump on his well.
Cooling down on a hot day.
Alien shrooms.
Early morning hike …
to the bird sanctuary.
Strollin’
Regular maintenance on the Big Wheel.
Meals at Grandpa’s feeder.

Puzzling this out kept him occupied for several hours.
Making mischief at the creek. Thanks to Joan for the picture.
There was a ~10km bike ride with Grandpa at 8AM daily.

Hunting for a potential leak in Grandpa’s kitchen.
He got stung by a wasp under his shirt while in the sailboat … it was better placement than where poor Grandpa got stung!
Practicing chivalry.
She didn’t want to get her feet wet and sandy that day.
Everyone took turns,
driving the boat.
Setting out for an exploration on the beach after beaching the pontoon boat.
The creek they biked to with Grandpa frequently.
Completely deserted!
Flower from a lily pad.
Felix’s happy place: driving a vehicle while on Daddy’s lap.
“The Ruisseau-de-l’Indien Ecological Reserve was established to protect one of the rare natural sites where mature white pine and Norway pine forests growing over thick sand deposits still remain. …”
He is so expressive 😊
Kids found this giant colourful caterpillar behind Grandpa’s house.
