Making Newton’s Cradle

You can buy the device that shows the conservation of energy, momentum and friction for $45 on Walmart, but Lara decided she wanted to make one instead. So she found a youtube video and got to work.

Video of Lara using the drill press; and the video of Felix using it (the end is cute).
Putting the frame together.
Successful collaboration!
Cleaning up the pencil markings.
Sanding the edges.
Putting it together.
Work in progress.
With two marbles, we can demonstrate it working (here’s the video). This video shows the same from above (from the top is cool!).
Their workspace.
Final product! This video shows it working.

  1. Very successful project. What happens if you start with two marbles pulled to the side?
