Several days into our trip, the kids and Neil started exhibiting signs of being sick (fatigue, sore throat, congestion and coughing). This was also when we realized that we had left the covid test kits behind in our frenzy of repacking 5 carry-ons into 2 checked bags the night before our departure. This is after realizing that the luggage dimensions for carry-on for Sunwing are quite different from those of other airlines. UGH!
On Jan 3, after several days of sickness, Felix woke up with a red eye. We were scheduled for a tour at Belmonte Estates at 11AM so popped into this plaza to pick up some eyedrops. It wasn’t going to be that easy. The pharmacist sent us to the doctor across the street.GPa was surrounded by the sick! The doctor diagnosed conjunctivitis and prescribed eye drops, eye ointment (same stuff as the drops but thicker for when he’s sleeping), and an antihistamine to help with the congestion. We visited four different pharmacies to source the medications, and finally arrived for our tour in the afternoon. The next day, his eyes were much improved. We continued using the drops as instructed.Of course, both Nolan and Lara also developed the red eyes. So we applied Felix’s drops (1 drop every 3 hours) to the kids.We knew we wouldn’t have enough drops and ointment (both eyes were afflicted in the cases of Nolan and Lara) so we’re back at the clinic the next day, which was also Lara’s birthday. The same doctor took measurements, prodded and probed the kids (especially their throats), and asked numerous questions. He was mumbling numbers in Spanish, and we discovered he’s originally from Cuba. He prescribed the eyedrops and antibiotics for these two (we could share Felix’s ointment among all three kids).Right beside the clinic was this “Quarantine Area”. We didn’t hang around to determine what this property was used for, we only used the driveway to turn around. Nolan and Lara’s colourful candy antibiotic pills. After the doctor’s visit, Lara requested a visit to the Chocolate Museum for a special milkshake for her birthday. She had lost her sense of taste though š and in retrospect, she might have had covid.

That doctor was so funny: Nolan was sniffling and the doctor said, āNo snifflingā, but every few minutes he (the doctor) would snort. He would also answer all of Mommyās comments with āahhhā or āohhā.

Remember Felixās eye drops?
