Leith 2021 August

We had originally planned a two-week stay at Leith this summer, renting a house a block away from Aunt Mary’s. With the relaxation of covid-19 restrictions, Aunt Mary and Tony said we could stay with them. For an extra bonus, since school was starting later than normal this year, they also invited us to extend our stay, for a total of three activity-packed memory-creation weeks in Leith.

Lots of sailing, of course.
Foggy morning.
Early morning paddle.
Taking Aunt Mary for a canoe ride early one morning.
The kids can sail the RS Vision on their own this year.
Loads of fun!
Neil spent many hours fixing the laser,
with Nolan’s occasional help.
Felix trying to run on water.
He is growing up.

Lara browsed through Aunt Mary’s recipe books and found a sheet pan tiramisu she wanted to try.

Lara’s sheet-pan tiramisu, for the second time in three days … because we had to be doubly sure that it was really THAT good.
The kids need a ride on the dolly at least once each trip.
Almost daily, there was a trip to the “Bishy Bill” airport to catch some planes, and to drive the car in the parking lot.
Making ice cream for ice cream sandwiches.
One day, looking out of Aunt Mary’s window, the kids spotted the SS St. Marys Challenger coming into Owen Sound. This vessel was built in 1906 and worked for over a century carrying cement before being refitted into a barge. It was hooked up with a dedicated tug boat (the Prentiss Brown) and still transports powdered cement (the Activities video later in this post shows the transfer of the powdered cement from the barge to storage containers on land).
Lara working on installing Aunt Mary’s green bin.
Dominoes greetings.
Lara decided to make sushi rolls for lunch after our Spirit Rock hike.
We had numerous games of mahjong – Felix won all but one that little monkey.
A different perspective of the storm.
Neil’s office.
Checking his repair.

Some of our favourite images of three kids with a Vision.

  1. Very entertaining. Such an accomplished family.
Question: what careers would you choose if you wanted to live in a place like Leith?
